Furosemide is a loop diuretic prescribed to reduce swelling and water retention in our body. This drug is usually used for congestive heart failure, edema associated with other conditions, and even hypertension. This is marketed under the brand name of Lasix
Furosemide 40mg is used to control hypertension, but, this is not a cure for this condition. This is oftentimes used in conjunction with other hypertensive drugs. The recommended dose for treating hypertension is furosemide 40 mg twice daily.
How can furosemide 40mg help in controlling hypertension? Furosemide 40mg decreases water retention in our body. Through this, our blood volume decreases resulting to a lessened pressure in our blood vessels. Imagine a water hose where there is a strong flow of water. The pressure will be increased if the faucet will be turned on to the fullest allowing a more supply of water. This is what happens to our blood vessels also.
